The oldest vines, planted in 1930, expanded until 1990. Grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, undergoing a brief pre-fermentation maceration to enhance aromatics. Wild fermentation occurs in stainless steel, followed by six months of maturation in old French barriques (225L and 500L). The result is a textural wine with savory citrus fruit and fine chalky mineral notes. It boasts a powerful mid-palate featuring nectarines, verbena, and a smoky finish.
Nestled in the enchanting village of Laserna-Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa, lies the Villota estate, a family legacy since 1930. Now lovingly tended by Carmen Pérez-Garrigues and her father Ricardo Pérez-Villota, this vineyard, rooted in history, broke free in 2013 to pursue the art of crafting premium wines. Rioja Alavesa, kissed by the cooling breezes of the Atlantic and cradled by the majestic Cantabrian mountains, mirrors the finest qualities of Rioja Alta. Here, on soils of calcareous and ferrous clay, their vines flourish, dry-farmed and bush-trained, nurtured with a passion for purity, untouched by chemicals, embodying the soul of tradition and excellence.
