Made from Aglianico vines over 50 years old on volcanic soils in the Liscone vineyard, this wine is a powerful, elegant red. Hand-harvested and destemmed, it undergoes a long maceration (~30 days), followed by ageing in French oak barrels (new tonneaux, 500L) for 12 months. On the nose it delivers rich red fruits with spicy and complex oak tones; the palate is full-bodied with velvety tannins, lively acidity, and a long, persistent finish. Dense dark fruit framed by firm, velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and a savoury volcanic minerality. The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of cocoa, spice, and dried herbs.
Cantine Madonna delle Grazie is a family-run estate in Venosa. The Latorraca family tend exclusively Aglianico vines, many very old, across several distinct vineyard blocks. Their approach is rooted in respect for the land, minimal cellar intervention, and expressing the unique character of Mount Vulture’s volcanic terroir in each wine.
