Light on its feet but packed with energy, this is Grenache with a distinctly cool-climate edge. Bright red fruits—pomegranate, blood orange and wild strawberry—lead into a savoury, slightly smoky lift, with hints of dried herbs and a subtle saline edge. The palate is juicy and finely structured, with vibrant acidity and a gentle, dusty grip of tannin keeping everything tight and precise. There’s a transparency here—almost Pinot-like in feel—finishing fresh, mineral and quietly complex.
Timo Mayer is one of the cult figures of the Yarra Valley, known for his uncompromising, minimal-intervention approach and signature use of whole-bunch fermentation. Working from his steep, high-altitude Bloody Hill vineyard, Mayer crafts wines that are vivid, energetic and deeply expressive of site. Originally from Germany, his philosophy—“bring the vineyard to the bottle”—results in small-batch wines that are pure, textural and unmistakably individual.
