One of Hungary’s most iconic sweet wines, Szepsy Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is a benchmark expression of the Tokaj region and its unique botrytised wines. Made from hand-harvested Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes, affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), this wine is vinified with meticulous care and aged in Hungarian oak barrels to achieve remarkable depth and balance.
In the glass, it reveals a deep amber-gold hue and an intoxicating nose of apricot jam, orange marmalade, honey, dried fig, saffron, and a subtle hint of tea leaf. The palate is lusciously sweet with over 150 grams of residual sugar per litre, yet beautifully balanced by vivid acidity that carries the flavours through an exceptionally long, vibrant finish. Complex, layered, and elegant, it’s a wine made for slow appreciation.
The Szepsy family has been making wine in Tokaj since the 1500s, and István Szepsy, regarded as the master of modern Tokaji, continues that legacy today. His commitment to low yields, hand selection, and single-vineyard expression has elevated Szepsy to near-mythic status among collectors and connoisseurs.
