Schloss Gobelsburg Riesling Heiligenstein 2022

One of Austria’s most revered single vineyards, Heiligenstein is a geological wonder—an ancient Permian desert sandstone that imparts both power and perfume. The 2022 is majestic: wild herbs, orange peel, and ripe stone fruit layered over a core of deep, stony minerality. It’s simultaneously rich and taut, a Riesling that captures Kamptal’s highest expression of tension, depth, and longevity.

Founded in 1171, Schloss Gobelsburg’s winemaking heritage began when Cistercian monks from Zwettl were granted vineyards on the Heiligenstein and Gaisberg hills—sites still central to the estate today. After centuries of monastic stewardship, production moved permanently to Gobelsburg in 1786, where the castle became the heart of the winery.

Since 1996, Michael and Eva Moosbrugger, together with Willi and Edwige Bründlmayer, have continued this legacy, combining tradition with refined precision. With vineyards spanning diverse soils and microclimates, Schloss Gobelsburg remains one of Austria’s oldest and most respected estates—its roots in ecological, monk-inspired viticulture still shaping its philosophy today.
